Also known as the 3rd telco player, Dito Telecommunity made its much-anticipated commercial debut, promising to provide Filipinos with a "better alternative" and ushering in a new era in the local telecommunications industry. The mobile number prefixes 0991, 0992, 0993, 0994, 0895, 0896, 0897, and 0898 were allocated to the third telco player. Find more here.
Dito officials, including CEO Dennis Uy and counterparts from strategic partner China Telecom, Information and Communications Secretary Gregorio Honasan II, National Telecommunications Commission commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba, and Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte, attended the company's launch program, which was broadcast live online. According to Dito's chief administrative officer Adel Tamano, the company's first customers would be 3,000 front-liners in Davao and nine other cities in Mindanao and Visayas, where the company launched its commercial operations. They will be able to use Dito's facilities for free, as well as get free SIM cards and tablets.
Passed First Technical Audit
The National Telecommunications Commission announced on Monday, February 22 that the 3rd telco player had passed its first technical audit, exceeding standards in terms of speed. During its second to fifth years of service, Dito promised to hit 55 megabits per second (Mbps) and 85 percent coverage under its certificate of public convenience and necessity.
DITO's average broadband speed was 507.5 Mbps for 5G and 85.9 Mbps for 4G, according to the results of an independent report conducted by R.G. Manabat and Co. Meanwhile, based on the 2015 national census population of 100,983,124, its coverage hit 37.48 percent, or 37,845,315 people. This is the equivalent of 8,860 barangays.
